Ergonomic Assessments

What is a DSE Risk Assessment?

A DSE Risk Assessment is carried out to ensure that the DSE workstation and tasks are organised in accordance with Safety, Health and Welfare at Work, (General Application) Regulations 2007, Chapter 5 of Part 2 (Display Screen Equipment).

They are an obligatory requirement for employees that are required to use Display Screen Equipment as part of their role.

Components of the assessment are:

  • Discussion with the employee regarding relevant medical and work history and current role
  • Assessment of current postures at workstation
  • Assessment of desk, chair and computer equipment
  • Assessment of working environment
  • Discussion with the employee regarding recommended changes and best ergonomic practice
  • Education regarding appropriate use of DSE equipment

A report is then issued to the employer detailing risk factors identified and recommendations to reduce these risk factors.
