As you know by now, I am always on the hunt for equipment that I can recommend to my clients that ticks two boxes – adjustable and affordable.
I am a big fan of the Kinesis Freestyle2 adjustable split keyboard, particularly for people experiencing upper limb discomfort, so I was delighted to find another keyboard based on similar principles – tenkeyless and adjustable.
I ordered it straight away and have been using it for approximately 2 weeks. Note – I bought this product to try for my own information. I was not gifted this keyboard and am not affiliated with the manufacturer.
So, let’s dive into the product and my experience with it.
Compatibility and Battery
Compatible with a wide range of operating systems, including Windows, MacOS, Linux, ChromeOS, and Android, the PERIBOARD-624B is versatile enough for various devices. It operates on 4 AAA batteries (2 per keyboard half).
Out of the box, 4 batteries in, USB key inserted into the laptop and I was good to go.
Wireless Functionality
This keyboard is truly wireless, with each half able to operate independently without a connecting cable. It connects via a 2.4GHz wireless receiver, providing reliable connectivity and flexibility in workspace setup. I am a fan of wireless devices as I try to keep my work surface uncluttered and tidy.
Dimensions and Weight
- Dimensions: 36.2 x 21.5 x 2.8 cm
- Weight: 650g
Design and Ergonomics
The PERIBOARD-624B is an adjustable split keyboard. This means the left and right side detach from each other and can be independently adjusted in angle. This keyboard is supplied with four magnetic attachments that can be slotted into different areas under the keyboard to change the typing angle. These are so easy to use and I find I do change my typing angles based on how I feel or what I am typing.
Build and Typing Experience
The keyboard features high-quality membrane key switches, delivering a tactile and comfortable typing experience with a long travel distance to reduce mistyping. It also includes built-in multimedia shortcuts for convenient access to media controls.
As a non-touch typist myself, I do find that I can sometimes struggle with typing accuracy when I change keyboards. This has not been the case with this keyboard. I have not been accidentally striking the keys any more frequently than I usually would.
It is quiet and comfortable to use.
Conclusion
Overall, the PERIBOARD-624B is a well-designed ergonomic keyboard ideal for those who like the feel of low risk membrane keys (think laptop keyboard). Its split design and adjustable tilt make it a practical choice for improving typing posture and reducing strain, for those experiencing upper limb discomfort or anyone looking to reduce their risk of developing upper limb musculoskeletal issues.
It is a keyboard I will be recommending to clients in the future and priced at €89.99 on the Perixx EU website and €66.27 on Amazon, it is an affordable option for most DSE users to consider.
